Hello,

My name is Christopher Farrugia and I'm a Forensic Scientist. I graduated from the University of Strathclyde and have been nominated in criminal and civil court cases, consular work and other undertakings spanning over 25 years of experience 

My main thrust is in DNA analysis. DNA as an instrument for identification, genomics, inherited or acquired (eg HIV, HPV) conditions 

For standard samples of identification an oral brushing is taken. This is a harmless means from where DNA can be extracted and purified for eventual comparison.

In veterinary science DNA is used in bird sexing for species like parrots, eagles and other exotic birds. DNA is also used in cases of pedigree or mixed breeds, including parentage, conditions such as degenerative myelopathy usually but not restricted for canines and PKD DNA tests for cats.
