When it comes to choosing the right kitchen for your home, there are a lot of things which you need to consider. We spend a lot of time in our kitchens, from cooking to eating and socialising, the kitchen truly is the heart of any home. There are two main design options however when it comes to purchasing a new kitchen: classic and contemporary. Whether you are planning to renovate your kitchen space or are looking to design one from scratch, choosing the best style for you can make or break your space.

Classic Styles

When it comes to choosing a classic kitchen, the first thing that comes into mind is that of having a timeless room in your home that can present you with a welcoming feel. Classic kitchens are generally created using a range of natural materials such as wood. The style of the kitchen itself would be a mixture of simple and functional – a kitchen that makes the most out of the space available. Classical kitchens also adhere to a certain colour scheme, as most of them are made using neutral colours such as greys, browns, whites or creams.

These colour schemes are mainly chosen due to their warmth and timelessness. The design for a classic kitchen is one that allows for easy entertaining while still offering a relaxed and cosy feel.

Contemporary Spaces

A contemporary kitchen on the other hand focuses more on presenting users with a sleek, smooth and highly minimalist solution. Some contemporary kitchens come with handleless cupboards and often focus on offering functionality in terms of presenting you with high gloss finishes, glass splashbacks and mirrored textures. A contemporary kitchen is ideal for anyone who is looking to have a clean and sleek aesthetic, with plenty of clever and hidden storage solutions.

Most contemporary kitchens nowadays present users with compact and integrated appliance storage solutions along with pull out pantries and functional drawers. Modern kitchens do not always adhere to a strict colour scheme, however the most popular colours for a contemporary kitchen space are black or white. Some people even opt for blues, greens or greys.

Create Your Own

There is no need to stick to one style. Certain people tend to opt for a mixture of the two together, creating a holistic approach to these two choices. One can add a mishmash of both classical and contemporary to their kitchens, presenting you with a unique and edgy look with a lot of character. Nowadays, one can choose to get a classical kitchen with the features of a contemporary one, such as soft-close drawers and pull-out spice racks.

The mixture of these two different styles can offer you both a sense of warmth and functionality at the same time, meaning that you will not have to sacrifice these in the name of style.
