Keeping kids entertained during cold and rainy winter days is a bit of a challenge, especially if they tend to get bored easily. Here's why we recommend baking with kids.We don't normally like the idea of letting them make an absolute mess, but for the sake of making something absolutely scrumptious let them have a go with some chocolate, dough, pots and pans - with your supervision and help of course. Here are some baking ideas you can have a go at with your kids for a fun-filled afternoon!

Chocolate Fudge Brownies

This treat has all of our favourite words: chocolate, fudge and brownies. The best part of it all is that it's easy to make. Just throw in all the ingredients in a bowl, pop it in the oven for 20 minutes or so and then have fun decorating them as soon as they cool down.

Planet Cookies

No better way of teaching your kids about the solar system than making an edible visual! The only time-consuming bit about this tasty bake is that you need to use different food colouring for each cookie's icing. In the end, we promise that it will look too pretty to eat.

Little Jam Tarts

Get jamming with these cute little jam tarts with your kids. All you will need is to roll out a shortcrust pastry, cut it out and place it in muffin tins. Put in that delicious jam filling and cut out cute little stars to place on top of the jam. And voila! They'll be ready to eat in just around 15 minutes.

Double Ginger Gingerbread Men

This recipe does get a tiny bit technical, so your kids will surely need your hands on deck and supervision. There's nothing more fun than recreating nursery rhymes than with food! You'll have your kids saying 'Run, run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me! I'm the Gingerbread Man!' while baking and nibbling on their freshly baked treats.

Biscuits

Everybody likes a good biscuit, especially for dipping in a warm cup of tea for the afternoon while taking in the winter chill. Biscuits also make for delicious treats for children's parties and they're very easy and quick to make. So get your rolling pin ready and your decorating hats on!

Pop by your closest supermarket or discount store and get some baking utensils, if you don't have any, while also picking up your ingredients for a fun-filled afternoon with your kids baking.
