Agenzija Sapport is Malta's National Agency dedicated to supporting and empowering persons with disabilities. By providing essential services, guidance, and resources to individuals, families, and communities, Agenzija Sapport works to promote social equity and inclusion for persons with disabilities, enriching their quality of life and fostering independence.
Agenzija Sapport's services cover a wide range of needs, starting with its Helpline, an accessible contact point for persons with disabilities and their families seeking assistance. Through this initial contact, individuals can be connected with relevant support services within the Agency. Social Work Services offer personalised assessment and intervention plans, addressing the needs and concerns of persons with disabilities and their families in a holistic, supportive manner. Another critical service provided is the Blue Badge, which is a legal document allowing individuals to access parking spaces reserved for persons with disabilities, enhancing mobility and convenience.
Additionally, Agenzija Sapport offers the EU Disability Card, which provides Read Moreindividuals access to specialised services across government departments and private organisations. The Personal Budget Assistance Scheme and the Family Assistance Support Scheme programme assists persons with disabilities and families of children with disabilities financially, enabling them to hire personal assistants who provide day-to-day support. For skill development, achiveing greater autonomy and social engagement. The Day Services programme encourages persons with disabilities to reach their potential through educational and social programmes, while Supported Independent Living services allow individuals to live autonomously within the community.
Respite Services provide much-needed temporary care to children and adults with disabilities, easing the responsibilities of caregivers through planned or emergency assistance. Occupational Therapy Services focus on enabling clients to engage in daily activities and lead a fulfilling life, while the Sharing Lives Service offers voluntary work opportunities, promoting friendships and social inclusion. For individuals who require support with communication, Agenzija Sapport offers Sign Language Interpretation in Maltese Sign Language (LSM), ensuring equal access to communication.
The Sonia Tanti Independent Living Centre (STILC) provides specialised assessments and guidance, equipping individuals with mobility aids, assistive devices, and tailored driving lessons on modified vehicles to promote independent living. Similarly, the Access to Communication & Technology Unit (ACTU) supports clients with communication and technology needs, enhancing independence through assistive technology. The Skill Up Programme equips support persons with disabilities, aiming to enhance their quality of life and promote their inclusion in all aspects of society.
Financial support is also offered through the Empowerment Scheme, allowing persons with disabilities to purchase assistive equipment and lead more self-sufficient lives. Transportation is a priority at Agenzija Sapport, with the Vehicle Road Licence and Registration Tax Exemption Schemes providing partial or full exemption to enable accessible, disability-friendly transport options. In addition, the Drive from Wheelchair Vehicle Grant provides financial aid for wheelchair-accessible vehicles, while the Grant on Modified, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles supports individuals or families in acquiring vehicles with ramps or lifts, tailored to their needs.
