Here Are 5 Tips To Transform Your Business Into An Environmentally-Friendly One

Maltese businesses are slowly opening again after the semi-lockdown, however just by taking a look at these regulations, one can easily see that things will be quite different from now on.

Most restaurants will have to re-invent themselves completely in order to adhere to these regulations, however, one question looms in our head – how can the sustainability-conscious adapt during these times?

The Coronavirus ushered with it a rise in disposable plastic use, and for a good reason. It is quite understandable for people to be concerned over health and hygiene during these times, however, that also means that environmental consciousness took the backseat.

Here are some tips that can help you work your way through Covid in a more sustainable manner.

1. Invest in reusable masks

Let's face it, it makes more sense to buy a couple of reusable masks than having to opt for single-use ones. This is not only better for the environment, it's even less straining on your pocket. If you have to buy a mask for every time you venture out, you will probably end up spending more money on disposable masks. Also, let's face it, who doesn't want to own one of these wonderful pieces?

2. Get creative with your menu

In this article, it was stated that the restaurants and cafes will have to opt for single-use menus, and we all know how impractical that is. If you are a restaurant or cafe owner, you could opt to put your menus online – and provide wifi for your customers. By doing so you will be able to avoid costly printing expenses, and everyone owns a phone nowadays anyway. If this option is not viable for you, you can instead choose to get a menu board for your restaurant.

3. Ask clients to bring their own tools when possible

While some of us would rather postpone their visit to the salon, others are itching to go back. We are definitely going to experience a change when it comes to the personal touch that salon work requires due to social distancing.

You can opt for more sustainable options if you own a salon by asking your clients to bring their own personal tools with them.

4. Upgrade your systems

Do we really still need to get paper receipts? With certain banks revolutionising the way payments are made, we can pretty much make paper receipts obsolete. Instead, shops and restaurants can invest in newer POS systems that allow them to send digital receipts rather than printing them out. Most people would much rather have their receipts received digitally than having them take up space in their wallets and pockets.

5. Decrease the demand for non-recyclables

From packaging to reusable cutlery, take-away boxes and other packages, every little counts. Try your best to commit to reducing the demand for non-recyclable packaging. Find new ways that will present you with a responsible packaging solution. Throwaway products might deter most of your customers, but recyclable or reusable solutions are the way to go if you are looking for added sustainability.
