Family gatherings, post-work aperitivos, team-building meetings, cause a collective nostalgia for fun-filled afternoons with friends and family – national lockdowns worldwide have changed the way we entertain ourselves in groups. It is no wonder that people are trying to find new ways to entertain themselves during these times.

Although the internet is full of single-player games you can while away your time with, finding online multiplayer games can be more challenging – so we've compiled a list of classic free games you can try your hand at during your next game night. From classic board games to party favourites, here is our list of online multiplayer games you can play during quarantine.

Pictionary

skribbl.io is a free to play web-based platform that enables you to play pictionary. On this website you can create your own private chat room in which you can invite guests to play the game.

The aim is to guess the images being drawn by other players. When it's your turn, you will be given a choice of three words to choose from. You are provided with a set of tools and colours to use.

Each chat room allows up to 12 players, and you can customise the number of rounds, drawing time, language, and even input custom words for other players to guess. This makes it a great choice for team-building exercises as you can use inside jokes, giving the game a more personalised twist.

Ludo

This 90's classic is another multiplayer game to indulge in during quarantine. There are many Ludo games available online, but this one in particular, allows you to host a private multiplayer game. All you need to do is share the code with up to 3 other players, and start playing.

Each player gets a house with four tokens with which they will be able to navigate from the starting point to the center by taking turns rolling your set of virtual dice. If a token clashes with another at some point, then the other token gets sent back home and has to restart again. Whoever manages to reach the centre point with all of the assigned tokens, wins.

Scrabble

Entertain yourselves and sharpen your language skills with a good old game of Scrabble. You can play with up to 3 other players, in three different languages – English, French and Italian, which makes it ideal if you're looking to brush up your foreign language skills.

Chess

Keeping your brain active is now more important than ever – one way of doing this is by playing strategy games like chess. Chess.com offers you the possibility of playing against your friend or family – all you need to do is sign up, and send out an invite to your opponent of choice.

Complete with a countdown timer, this game is perfect at recreating the intense atmosphere associated with this game – a great online alternative to this much loved classic.

Charades

Charades is an all-time favourite which never fails to entertain groups – be it after a family lunch, or during a summer barbeque, there are many ways you can play charades online with your friends and family. You can play charades using a social media platform video chat option.

The easiest way of doing it would be to come up with the clues yourself – these can be created using books, movies, series, people, or a selection of other categories you're all familiar with.

Let your fellow players know the number of syllables in each word to give them a head-start. To make the game flow faster, you can each prepare a set of words to act out, and choose accordingly when it's your turn.

These all-time classics have entertained us in our past and now continue to be some of the best online games you can play with your friends and family during quarantine.

Let us know which one is your favorite in the comments section.
