During this time of year, there is nothing better than curling up in a blanket on your sofa with a warm drink and order in some delicious food right to your doorstep to watch a Christmas themed movie to get you in the festive spirit. Who doesn't love to do a little movie marathon all themed around the holidays? Here are a few movies, in no particular ranking order, which we think should be included in your Christmas movie marathon this year!

1.Home Alone (1990)

This has to be the go-to movie that everyone must surely watch during the Christmas season, right off the bat. Alight hearted movie for all the family to enjoy. The movie is a reminder that despite sometimes we disagree with our families and sometimes we just want to be left alone, on special occasions like these, there is no one else we'd rather spend this day with than our family.

2. Elf (2003)

Another hilarious comedy movie is Elf, this time centered around Buddy the elf, Santa's biggest helper. When Buddy comes to realise his true roots and finds out that his father is a grumpy publisher in New York. he sets onto a mission to spread Christmas cheer amongst the cold-hearted New Yorkers.

3. Love Actually (2003)

Even if you're not into Christmas, this incredible cast and different storylines that intertwine with one another at different intervals will surely warm up your little Grinch heart. This movie highlights some of the best and, unfortunately, also worst parts of love which we all are accustomed to one way or another. The ending might be cheesy, but it's all about the magic of Christmas spirit.

4. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Steering away from the traditional Christmas cheese, this famous Tim Burton animated creation has definitely not lost its charm over the years. You still have every little element that a traditional Christmas movie would have: presents, Santa, romance, singing, and so on. However, this movie comes with a little dose of darkness. Its creativity and originality have made this movie a classic!

5. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

Ghosts, children living in poverty, Christmas spirit, singing and a bitter old miser. This movie is based on the classic Ebenezer Scrooge tale by Charles Dickens. We all know how the story goes, but this is a tad bit better because it has Muppets!

6. Arthur Christmas (2011)

This very smart, British 3D animation is fairly new on the scene, but it's such an adorable movie, we just had to include it on our list! Santa's young son, Arthur, is on a mission to deliver a present that slipped through his brother's operation to deliver presents all over the world on Christmas Eve! An engaging fantasy surely to be a crowd-pleaser.

7. How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

This movie doesn't need any introductions or reasons why it's on this list. Jim Carrey's performance of the famous Dr. Seuss tale makes this movie another staple into anyone's Christmas movie list. This classic is a heartwarming movie that pulls at everyone's heartstrings, reminding those who aren't fans of the holiday to join in the fun!

8. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (2005)

This cosy and very child-friendly faithful adaptation of C.S. Lewis's novel is surely a Christmas treat. This movie has the right amount of enchantment we all look for this time of year. We're pretty sure that at some point in your childhood you wished that the back of your wardrobe led to an enchanted land covered in snow.

9. The Holiday (2006)

More centered around the element of romance, The Holiday is set in the little village of Surrey and across the Atlantic in Los Angeles. This movie follows two women and how this holiday season didn't seem to go according to plan. They decide to swap houses for the season to run away from their realities and find some escapism. This journey leads them to learn a lot about themselves and find happiness once again.

10. It's a Wonderful Life (1946)

We're ending this list with the ultimate classic of classics for Christmas movies. This message-driven, snowy festive classic is a wonderful delight to watch and entertaining, no matter how many years pass. It is a testimony to the power of the individual.
