Experience the excitement and joy that traditional Maltese folk music brings out with Ta’ Verna Folk Band! Folk music has always been ingrained in Maltese culture, dating back as far as the 16th century. Maltese folk music has survived through many generations, being preserved through time as a historical part of our musical heritage. Ta’ Verna Folk Band is a Gozitan group that was re-formed with the intention of celebrating the beauty of traditional Maltese music. 

Our group is made up of 10 musicians, all specialising in different instruments that are typically used in this style of music, including the piano accordion, piano, violin and flute, mandolin, Maltese guitar, acoustic bass guitar, double bass, friction drum and karabazza (hammer). This symphony of traditional music creates an authentic sound enjoyed by locals and foreigners alike. Accompanying our band are three talented singers and four wonderful dancers, who all work to create a Read Morepositive, fun and lively atmosphere while engaging the audience. While we specialise in Maltese folk music, singing about our beautiful language and cultural traditions, our repertoire also consists of international folk songs so that foreigners can join in the fun too! Our musical portfolio consists of favourites like ‘Viva Malta’, ‘Lanca Gejja’, ‘Inti Djamant’, ‘RosaMarie’, and much more. One of our specialities is ‘Ghana’, a spontaneous form of singing which formed part of Maltese working-class and peasant music. Our music is also accompanied by traditional Maltese dances as well!

Throughout the years, our band has continued to gain popularity among both locals and foreigners. We have since played at various venues including village feasts and functions, major events and televisions shows, as well as the ever-popular Ghana Fest.
