Sport, community and a brilliant cause came together in Malta recently, as more than 200 people turned out for the latest Goals charity football event, raising over €3,000 for the Schools for Africa (Malta) Foundation. From the first whistle to the last, players, families and supporters packed the pitch, soaking up the competition, the music and the buzz of a day that was about much more than football.

Behind the day is Goals Events, the team using sport to bring people together, build stronger communities and raise serious money for charitable foundations. Every tournament is built around competition with a conscience: real football on the pitch, real impact off it. It is a simple idea executed brilliantly, and one that just keeps growing.

This time, every cent raised went to SFAM, the Maltese foundation committed to investing in children's education in Africa. The cause is more pressing than ever, with SFAM set to begin building its very first school on the continent this year. The money raised at Goals will go directly towards giving young learners proper classrooms, qualified teachers and a real chance at a brighter future.

The day itself had everything you could ask for. MFA Referees kept the matches competitive and fair, live music carried the afternoon, and the bar was kept generously stocked by Cafe 101 and MyConvenience, who donated food and drink for the entire event. Add over 200 supporters, plenty of friendly rivalry and one fantastic cause, and you have the recipe for a brilliant day out.

Goals Events will be back with more tournaments through the year, each promising the same mix of community, competition and contribution. Follow Goals on social media to keep up with the next event, and follow the journey of the Schools for Africa Malta Foundation as their first school takes shape.
