I booked what I believed was a car through Bee Rentals Malta for a total of €58.60. Upon arrival, I was directed to a company called KWL, who handled the vehicle pickup. I had my 2-year-old with me and was exhausted after travelling, so I didn’t realise until the next day that they had charged me €227.10 – nearly four times the agreed amount.
There was no clear explanation given at the time of pickup for the additional charges. Only later did they claim the extra costs were for insurance, location fees, and fuel – none of which were disclosed on the original booking or verbally explained when I handed over my card.
Their communication after the fact was extremely poor, with my calls and messages initially ignored. When I did receive a reply, it was vague and unhelpful. To this day, I have not been provided with an official receipt or proper breakdown of the charges.
After doing some digging, I found multiple online reviews describing nearly identical experiences with this company. It appears that Bee Rentals Malta is being used as a front to lure in unsuspecting travellers with low prices, only for them to be redirected to KWL and charged hidden fees.
Travellers, be warned – this company operates in a dishonest and misleading manner. I’ve reported them to Wise (my payment provider), and I plan to submit formal complaints to the Malta Tourism Authority and consumer affairs. Avoid KWL if you value transparency and honest service.
Liars and thieves
a. We booked from Sky-scanner and the total was 95€, including a 2nd driver. We asked them to remove the second driver because it was under 25 yo. They lied to us that the couldn't and they even charge us extra for young driver.
b.The employee there kept charging me with hidden fees which came at a total of 290
c. They charge us 40€ for half petrol tang which cost 40€ to fully fill the tang
Unprofessionals
a.We parked and close all the lights of the car. The next day we couldn't start the car. We called them and they blamed us, i responded like "do you think i am stupid?" And he responded that "for charging the battery we should charge you 35€" after 1hour and 15minutes they finally arrived
b.The employee kept ignoring me when i was asking why this happened etc. Probably because i am a woman! He only talked with my boyfriend.
c.The employee jump started the battery and told us to wait 40 minutes for the battery to self charge
d.After almost 2hours we start our journey. After arriving to our destination we parked and tried to re-start the car engine. And of course it didn't start again. We waited for them another 2 hours to come. They came and changed the battery. The told us they would take the old battery and charge it instead of throwing it away and buying a new one. AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE US IN THE FIRST PLACE. We lost the day because of them.
