He started dealing in building materials and was granted a commission agency licence by the Chamber of Commerce in 1945. This marked the beginning of a strong presence in Malta's construction and bathroom supplies sector.

In the late 1950s, Mr Hili became the official agent for GROHE in Malta. GROHE is a leading global brand in sanitary fittings and Read Morewater technology.
