A breeze of history of Waterfront in Valletta
Malta's Waterfront is situated in Floriana, just below Valletta. It was constructed in the 18th century in the baroque style designed by Andrea Belli, a Maltese architect and businessman. Originally, the area included warehouses with the Church of the Flight into Egypt in the middle. Because of its strategic position and close proximity to the Grand Harbour and Malta Dockyard, it was under heavy bombardment during the World War II. Some of the buildings were fully or partially destroyed. Looking at the Waterfront today it's hard to say, though, as all the buildings have been restored and renovated. The most charming buildings are Pinto Stores, Forni Stores with the church separating them.
Before or after a meal it's great to take a walk all around Valletta's coast all the way to Sliema.
