Ask anybody and they’ll tell you that the Yellow directory has been a staple in their household for as long as they can remember. Well, it’s that time of year again, and the 2016-2017 annual distribution is just around the corner!
You might already know this, but for the past 17 years we’ve been collecting and recycling old copies of the book while distributing the new directories in order to help preserve the environment. This is important to us, and our efforts have resulted in the collection of an average of 63,000 copies per year, all of which are then sent abroad for recycling. Since our very first year of collection in 1999, we’ve collected a total of 635,580 copies, or 953 tonnes of paper that was saved from all around Malta and Gozo. We’re pleased with these numbers, but we could do a lot more with your help!
Yellow & Dar tal-Providenza
This year, we’ve decided to go one step further. For every book collected, we will donate €0.10 to Dar tal-Providenza. This might seem like a little, however when you consider that over 180,000 copies of the book are distributed every year, this would add up to as much as €18,000 donated to the cause! We’re hoping that this incentive would serve to further encourage every household to help us recycle their old books. It’s a small move on your part, but it could make a big difference.
How do I return my old directory?
Helping us recycle the books is very easy. All you need to do is leave your old directory on your doorstep and one of our representatives will collect it. Click here to find out when the Yellow representatives will be in your area. On that date, collection will start at 6.00am and continue until 8.00pm, so please leave the book outside from the night before.
Our cleanup team will visit again a couple of days later to collect any unwanted copies of the new book, or any old books that weren’t collected on the day. Of course, throughout this process we’re here to answer any questions you may have – call us on free phone 800 722 37 or send a message on our Facebook page.
Throughout the years Yellow has received a number of recognitions and awards. In 2007 and 2009, we were awarded an Honourable Mention in the Environment Award for Industry. In 2011 Yellow also received the Conservation Award for Sustainable Development. On top of that, we have been consistently recognised by Malta’s Cleaner Technology Centre, for our constant efforts and accomplishments. But this isn’t all down to our hard work alone – we couldn’t have done this without your help.
Yellow thanks you
We are fully aware that we would have never managed to make such a significant difference if it weren’t for the support of the Maltese and Gozitan public. We thank you for all your support throughout the years, and encourage you to take part in this year’s recycling programme. Our aim is to make the islands a cleaner place to live in, but to achieve our goal we need your help. Together, we can make Malta and Gozo a better place to live in whilst contributing to a noble cause!
