Gozo is renowned for its laid-back character and flavourful culinary delights – along with its stunning natural landscapes and gorgeous views. In this article, you can find an assortment of hiking routes that will help you re-discover the stunning charm that our sister island has to offer. From winding rural roads to blushing fertile valleys, here are five beautiful hike trails in Gozo.

1. Mgarr ix-Xini

Mgarr Ix-Xini large

If you're into easy trekking paths, this trail is a fine choice for you.

The Mgarr ix-Xini route starts at Mgarr and will take you through lush rural roads until you arrive at the captivating Mgarr ix-Xini beach. Keep your eyes peeled for cars, as at times this course interweaves with paved roads. You can stray away from the path to hike along the charming coast – a surefire way to enjoy the breathtaking Mgarr ix-Xini cliffs. If you'd like to take this trail a step further, you can stroll along the Ta' Cenc and Sanap Cliffs – or march all the way to Xlendi.

2. Qala

This hiking trail is great for anyone who prefers to stroll through country roads while enjoying picture-perfect views. The Qala to Xaghra path is an ambitious one for some – as it can take three hours or more to complete – depending on your pace. What we really love about this route, however, is that on your way back to Qala, you can make a diversion to Nadur for a mouthwatering Gozitan ftira.

3. Wied il-Ghasri

The unique Wied il-Ghasri

Wied il-Ghasri was already mentioned in part I of this article, however, this course will definitely test your limits. Starting from Rabat, this trip will take you along the majestic valley of Ghasri, Ghar ir-Rih, Reqqa Point, the Xwejni Salt Pans and finishes in urban Marsalforn. Boasting some of the most picturesque views one can find on the island, this 8.8km hike trail is not for the faint-hearted.

4. Lunzjata

L-entratura (the opening of the Lunzjata Valley)

This spectacular journey can start from either Rabat or Xlendi. The heavenly Lunzjata valley is an idyllic stretch where you can cherish the iconic beauty that Gozo has to offer – best keep this route for non-rainy days as the valley is easier to meander through when dry. If you'd like to take this trail a step further, you can stroll along the Xlendi valley.

5. Mixta Cave

If you're an adventurer at heart, this trail will get your excitement up and running. The Mixta Caves area is speckled with Neolithic Caves and delightful views. The track starts in Nadur and ends at Hondoq ir-Rummien, offering you magnificent vantage points of San Blas Bay and Ta' Sopu Tower.
