If for some reason or another, you find yourself in a situation where you need to hire a skip you need to know a few pointers before you do so. It is important that you know all the details that you should know so that then you can pass them on to the company of your choice so that they can then provide you with the right advice on the right skip for you.

Not all skips are the same and all serve different purposes and if you have never hired one before it is ideal that you find out the main things that you should know before making that call. The more informed you are the more cost-effective your decision will be. It will be quite inconvenient to pay for two skips only because the small one that you hired was not enough, then again you do not want to be paying for a big one if you are not going to fill it.

What are the main points to know before hiring a skip?

  • The waste type - It is advisable that you know what kind of waste you will be disposing of. All kinds of waste will need its own space and thus you need to determine what kind of waste this skip will hold before you start thinking about anything else.
  • Skip Size - After you have determined the type of waste you will be disposing of the next thing to think about is the size of skip you will need. You can choose mini skips that are often used by those performing small jobs and in need to do a little refurbishing around the house. Then there are the medium skips that are often used by builders and those disposing of a little furniture. The last are the larger skips, these are used even for commercial sites or big buildings and houses that need to do a total refurbishing and will have a lot of waste to dispose of.
  • Permits - A highly important aspect of hiring a skip is the permits. You need to make sure that you first check that you can actually have the skip put where you need it. Especially if you are taking up a parking space or if this will be placed in a public place you will need the right permits before you proceed. You can liaise with the company of your choice, the council and even Transport Malta if you want to have as much information as possible.
  • Type of skip - Depending on the use of the skip you will be able to decide whether you want an open skip, one that has side doors or even ones that are closed that can provide more privacy and prevent passersby from throwing in their own waste. In the case of a project where waste is being disposed of constantly, open skips are the ideal choice.

Once you have made sure to know everything you need to know before choosing a company, you have peace of mind in knowing that you can finalise the deal easily and that you have an answer for all of their questions. You might even want to consider finding a company that can provide you with prompt deliveries, just in case you need quick disposal of types of waste.

When you hire a skip you can choose to dispose of furniture, soil, domestic waste, bricks from buildings, wood and even metal. Yet it is very important to know that anything that is electronic cannot be disposed of in a rental skip. If these cannot be reused in any way it is advisable to find the right way for them to be disposed of.

In regards to safety other materials that cannot be disposed of in a skip are medical waste, explosives, fuel, fluorescent tubes, tyres, gas cylinders, solvents, liquids and asbestos. If you are in doubt about any other material you should make sure to contact the company you have chosen to hire the skip from and discuss it with them as they will surely have the right advice for you.
