Scaffolding equipment must be inspected and checked regularly. Not only will this provide your structure with more stability, but it will also offer you and your employees increased safety in the workplace.

Every time a new structure is set up or assembled, one needs to present it with an inspection. This will provide you with certainty when it comes to positioning and stability. These contraptions also need to be checked regularly in order to prevent safety from becoming jeopardised.

How do you check your scaffolding?

  • Make sure that all rails are stable and safe
  • Ensure that you are at least 10 feet away from power lines and other dangerous elements
  • Ber sure that there is enough footing stability
  • Posts, mudsills and base plates need to be secured
  • Check all parameters diligently
  • Inspect planks for holes, cracks or other hazards
  • Make sure that the right tools and materials are being used
  • Check frame stability and ground security

Inspections can save lives

It is imperative to always check your scaffold before and after use, as this does not only present safety, but it can also prevent horrific accidents from happening.

A well set up scaffolding will definitely present you and your employees with all the safety needed.

When should you inspect your scaffold?

Handover inspections

Whenever you are presented with a new scaffold system, or you have just set one up, it is best to check it for a sound and safe structure. After it is erected, an inspector should make sure that the system is safe to use and well set up. If any changes or alterations are made to your scaffold, re-check again after set up, and make sure that they are sturdy enough. Make sure to not use your structure if it is unsafe or in need of repairs.

After-use inspection

After you are done using your scaffold, make sure to check its conditions and those of the building next to it. You need to make sure that your structure is not at risk of collapsing. Inspections should also take place on high areas of the scaffold. When inspections are conducted, it is best to make note of any damages or repairs that need to be performed.

Weekly checks

It is important to check out your scaffold at least once a week, especially during winter. Harsh weather conditions such as thunderstorms, heavy rains or strong winds can affect your structure and weaken its stability in a jiffy. It is important to identify these hazards prior to use.
