Different types of scaffoldings have different uses in the construction sector. There are six main types of scaffold which you can find on the market, and each one of these comes with different properties and uses. It is important to know which scaffold it is that you need before hiring or renting one, as it would help you understand better how it works, what safety precautions are needed and if it is fit for the project that you have in mind.

Here are the six different main scaffold types and their uses by Matrix Scaffolding Ltd.

1. Cantilever Scaffolding

Cantilever scaffolds are also called single frame scaffolds. They hold limited usage, and like any other scaffold, they need to be inspected before being set up and used. They are supported by a chain that is attached to holes in a supporting wall. One needs to be very careful when installing these scaffolds, as their stability depends on this. They need to be installed alongside structures that are strong and able to support their weight. Cantilever scaffolding is great to use when working in high up spaces on the side of buildings, however your workers need to be wearing harnesses to ensure their safety. These scaffolds are ideal to work on hard to reach spaces.

2. Double Scaffolding

These models are mostly used for support. Double scaffoldings are completely separate from walls of other structures. Meaning that the structure supports itself. They are generally used in places where it is difficult to puncture holes in a stone wall for support. Additional steps may be implemented in order to make this structure more sturdy and strong. Such structures include braces and rakers.

3. Patented Scaffolding

Patented scaffolds are made using steel. These structures are made of steel and come with a range of couplings and frames. They can be assembled easily and are used in conjunction with integral locking devices. Patented scaffolding brackets are easily adjustable according to the height that you require. However they are not as flexible and do not always present you with comfort when working on angular buildings.

4. Single Scaffolding

Single scaffolding is one of the oldest methods of construction in the industry. It is made up of ledgers, putlogs and standards. This type of scaffold is generally linked to a wall at a distance and present users with a stable and sturdy structure to work on. One can also implement the use of braces in order to present this structure with added support. These scaffolds are generally built from the ground up and are considered a safe and popular choice among construction workers.

5. Trestle Scaffolding

These models are generally preferred for certain jobs such as indoor painting or minor repairs. They come with a boarding platform and are supported by movable tripods. These scaffoldings can present you with the ability to work five meters higher than ground level. They are made using lightweight materials and can even be put on wheels in order to be moved around easily.

6. Suspended Scaffolding

Suspended scaffolding is generally preferred for certain projects, such as window cleaning. They are used for maintenance and repair jobs on the side of buildings. These scaffolds are made up of guard rails and platforms that are supported using ropes, wires or chains. They can be easily raised or lowered both mechanically or manually. These suspended scaffolds need to be secured in order to avoid swaying motions. It is of imperative importance to inspect the ropes, wires or chains for damage before use, as they can be perilous for your team members or even pedestrians walking underneath the structure. It is ideal for your workers to wear harnesses for safety reasons.
