Oil and oil filter check and replacement.

This is to be done by the garage doing a service, however the owner / driver should check the oil level on a bi-weekly interval. Engine cold and car on level ground.

Below is a check list that the owner driver should perform on a bi-weekly interval:

Brake fluid check and top up. Check why the level has gone down? Is this due to a leak, or wear and tear. Check with your technician.

Anti-Freeze coolant check and top up.

Windscreen wash check and top up.

Power steering fluid check and top up.

Shock absorbers check. Visual only, check for possible oil leaks in the shock absorbers.

Light check. Check all lights. An assistant might be useful to help check rear lights especially brake lights. Any broken bulbs to be replaced as soon as possible.

Windscreen wipers check.

Exhaust check. Check for excessive smoke, be it white or black smoke, and check for excessive noise.

Battery check. This can easily be done using simple, inexpensive tools.

Charging systems check. If you feel comfortable doing a battery check, you will manage a charging rate check. Usually the instrument doing a battery check will also give you a charging rate indication.

Tyre tread and pressure check.  Again, a visual check is all that is needed here. Check for wear. Decide if the wear is normal, due to usage and or if it is abnormal wear. This could be due to over or under inflation. Check the tyre pressures on a regular basis in consultation with the owner's manual.

If the tyre tread wear is uneven have this checked at a qualified technician.
