Dentures have been used by humans for eons. Since the times of the Egyptian Pharaohs, dentures were commonly used to replace single, multiple and even full arches of teeth.

The popularity of these contraptions hasn't waned over the years, on the contrary — a substantial percentage of today's population still wears dentures. However, many of these denture wearers resign to the fact that their dentures offer limited support and stability.

 Advantages of dentures:

  • Cheap
  • Presents better aesthetic
  • Low maintenance
  • Replace both hard and soft tissues

 Disadvantages of dentures:

  • Removable
  • Instability when chewing and talking
  • Loss of taste
  • Psychologically traumatic

Having pointed out the disadvantages, patients may still be relatively happy to get dentures. This is due to the fact that most might be suffering from long-standing edentulism (toothlessness). This condition can be both partial or whole, either way, this large volume of bone loss causes much discomfort.

Dentures can easily fix this by adding pink acrylic resin material below the synthetic teeth. This is a great way to allow the surrounding facial tissue to have all the support that it needs — reducing signs of aging and discomfort.

Fixed dental implant prosthetics eliminate any denture movement, however this means that the patient would have to undergo extensive treatment. These treatments include invasive bone grafting and implants placements — two things that come with a hefty price-tag. This usually puts the patient off these treatments.

A better solution

For those who are looking for a solution that does not cause as many issues for the patient, there are overdentures. Overdentures allows users to hang onto their dentures while maintaining denture mobility and retains taste.

Advantages of overdentures

  • Implants are placed for a secure denture
  • Comfort
  • Hygienic
  • No need to graft bone
  • Only 2-4 implants are required
  • Low maintenance
  • Replace hard and soft tissues
  • Easily removed to clean
  • Highly stable on eating and talking
  • Aesthetic
  • Cheaper than fixed-implant prosthesis

The rubber or elastic sleeve in these implants might need changing once a year or so, however the frequency of this change relies heavily on a range of factors. These include hygiene and overdenture care.

Overdentures are removable, meaning that you can take them off to clean them easily. This reduces the risk of inflammation around the implants and gives you added peace of mind in terms of cleanliness. Overdentures are equipped with
