Camping in Malta can appear to be quite intimidating, especially with the limited amount of spaces that are available for this activity. Far from daunting, however, camping on the Maltese islands can prove to be a much needed break from our monotonous daily routines, as well as from the crowded cities that we have grown accustomed to.

Immersing yourself in nature can be a great opportunity to relieve some stress and relax in an environment that is not made out of concrete. It is for this reason that we have compiled a thorough list of ideal camping sites for you to discover this winter:

1. L-Ahrax tal-Mellieha

L-Ahrax tal-Mellieha is undoubtedly the most ideal official camping site in Malta. The location is set in the woodland and offers breathtaking views of the sea. In order to camp here, a permit is required for one of the following 3 designated zones: l-Aħrax tal-Madonna (Zone A), l-Aħrax tat-Tunnara (Zone B)  and l-Aħrax tar-Ramel (Zone C). Registering is quite straightforward, and can be done by clicking here.

2. Selmun

Selmun is a perfect location for camping, mainly because of its remarkably quiet and peaceful environment. Accessing this location might be slightly more difficult than entering L-Ahrax tal-Mellieha, however this also means that fewer people will take advantage of the camping options that this area offers and thus allow for significantly more serene spaces.

3. Ghajn Tuffieha Campsite

The Ghajn Tuffieha Campsite is an official campsite run by the Scouts Association of Malta. This area is ideal if you also wish to benefit from certain additional facilities such as showers, toilets, water and electricity when camping in the wild. 4. Comino

Comino offers a number of camping areas for you to enjoy. Beautiful views and stunning sunsets are impossible to miss when camping at this captivating location, and facilities such as showers and toilets are also available at the Santa Marija Bay campsite.

5. Armier Camping Site

If, on the other hand, you prefer to have a camping experience that is significantly less immersed in the wild and offers more comfort in the form of numerous luxuries at hand, the camping site in Armier is the perfect place for you.
