Have you ever felt that no matter how hard you try to schedule your work, the day seems to whizz past you in a blink of an eye? Optimising your work day means that you reach your productive peak within each task at hand. On paper, this sounds ideal, though we all know how hard this actually is in practice; with distractions around each corner and energy levels dipping throughout the day. The key is to remain in control throughout your demanding day.

Grab a paper and jot down these tips we think will help you administer your day more efficiently.

Routine is a habit

Some of the most productive people, from CEOs to working mums all follow the same pattern; they wake up early. Now, this may sound a bit far-fetched but, after a few weeks, your body clock gets used to waking up before the sun comes up. You need to wake up before the hustle and bustle of your day wears you down, you need to work on your goals before they have competition.

Start your day with some exercise, whether it's at home, outdoor, or at the gym, to get your endorphins running high so that you can attack your day with the right positive attitude. You know what they say "healthy mind, healthy body". Doing this, day in day out, will serve as the framework of your daily routine, which will improve your productivity drastically.

When the going gets tough, the tough
gets going

Begin your day with tackling the most demanding tasks, the tasks which require your full attention and energy, as your brain is the freshest 2.5 hours of waking up. Schedule your workday to begin by writing down your assignments for the day, then start your day with the most challenging and creative responsibilities. Leave your emails and calls for later on in the day, when you're tired out and in need of some relaxation.

When writing down your schedule, make sure to allowenough time for each task, sticking to your schedule will ensure you waste less time and stay focused.

Avoid brain fog

As the day advances, we tend to fall into a slump. Maybe we had a heavy lunch, or the monotony of our day has caught up to us. Whatever the reason, be sure to top up with a nutritious mid-day snack and reassess your goals for the day. Avoid getting distracted by social media, realign your thoughts and get back on track. Take a five-minute breather if need be and refocus on the job at hand.

Remember to switch off

As your work day comes to an end it's important to recharge and let your mind switch off for a few hours. Engaging in active hobbies after work and meeting friends
reduces stress levels and allows you to tackle tomorrow's goals with a fresh slate and a more motivated mindset. Sleep loss means mind loss so make sure you have a well-needed slumber at the end of your work day.

Knowing when to schedule different tasks in your day is key. This is the change you can begin tomorrow, reap the rewards as your work day comes to an end and you would have ticked off most of your to-do list. Do what matters most and make sure you do it well, you won't finish everything but that's OKAY! Employing a daily ritual will make your workdays more predictable and ultimately more productive.
