We've said this several times before, and we shall repeat it again: the sun is both your best friend and worst enemy, and we don't just mean for your skin. In case you didn't know it: salt, chlorine and the sun are the major cause of knotty and damaged hair. Don't panic, you are still on time to get those healthy locks back, just keep reading for our tips.

Protect your hair

Just like the skin, too much direct sunlight on your hair can increase the chances of damaging it. Although there is not yet a sunblock for your hair, you can cover your head with a hat.
Before taking a dip in the sea or pool, apply some conditioner to the tips of your hair in order to protect it from the salt and chlorine.

Jump, swim, rinse

Whenever you go for a swim, rinse your hair with tap water. When heading to the beach or pool, and don't have access to public showers, remember to pack a few bottles of tap water and use them to rinse off the excess salt and chlorine from your hair.

Moisturise with coconut oil

Shampoo and conditioner are important when looking to prevent damaged hair, but during those hot summer months, you want to add a little extra moisture to your hair to avoid it from getting too dry and brittle. After your hair routine, simply add a bit of coconut oil to your hair and let it sink in. If possible, put a towel on your pillow and sleep with it at night, then rinse it the following morning. The longer you can keep the coconut oil to your hair, the smoother the result will be.

Avoid brushing

When possible, try not to brush your hair. We are fully aware that this might be difficult to do, especially if your hair tends to puff up quickly - but the more your brush it, the more it will break. Find a brush that doesn't pull your hair too much, and stick to brushing it once a day.

It's all about air drying

If you want to prevent damaged hair, the last thing you want to do is add extra heat to your hair during the hot summer months. Pack your hairdryer and straightener away, and forget all about them. Let your hair dry naturally after washing it, and we can assure you, you will see the difference within a week.
