It happens to the best of us every now and then. An office party, birthday, friend getting married, celebrating a win or promotion. A bar, friends, some cash and before you know it, it's late and you're drunk. So what now? You can't drive, so how do you get home?
Here are four ways to get home safely after a night of drinking, whether it was planned or not.

Walk

Walking is by far the best way to get home safely after a night of drinking. That's okay if you live in Valetta or Victoria or somewhere built up but not so practical if you live rurally. We can comfortably walk a mile or two while tipsy or a little drunk, but not so much if you can barely stand.
Walking has the side effect of waking us up, sobering us (a little bit) and giving us the time to make up an excuse for when we arrive home!

Taxi

Taking a taxi home can more practical than walking if you live a little further away. But only if you're still in a
built up region. Taxi drivers on Malta are usually friendly enough and are used to transporting drunk people around, especially in the tourist areas. Share a cab or take your own, whatever works for you.
Plan ahead and keep taxi fare in your wallet for just such an occasion. Keeping a ten or twenty Euro note inside your phone case or folded up in a wallet can be a life saver in many situations. This is one of them.

Bus

Since Malta got its new buses and routes, it is possible to take a night bus home. If you're fortunate enough to be out late on a Friday or Saturday night, you can take one of the three ‘N' route buses that run hourly between Paceville and Paola. This should be a viable option for all but the
most drunk people.

Get a lift

If you planned ahead and arranged your own transport home, then nothing beats a door to door service. A designated driver or friend who doesn't drink can also usually be convinced to get you home safely after a night of drinking. As long as you make it worth their while. If you have a significant other, then sweet talking them into coming to
collect you shouldn't be too hard as long as you don't make a habit of it!
