School is right around the corner – and this year it will be different. Not only have students around the world been absent from school for almost seven months, but this time around, new measures need to be taken due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Just as many individuals and businesses have taken several precautions, students now must too

To help you organise yourself, we at Yellow have come up with a list of school bag essentials to help you sail through your scholastic year.

1. Get on top of your note-taking game

Some like making use of a good old fashioned notepad while others prefer typing away on their laptop. Either way, make sure you have either at all times. You don't want to end up without anything to write your notes on when you find out that the lecturer won't be providing you with a copy of the presentation.

2. Don't forget your charger

How can you keep updated with the world around you without your phone? Always keep a spare charger in your backpack, just in case your phone runs out of juice.

3. Buy a planner

Your life will slowly start shifting back to the madhouse that the scholastic year entails with it, but fear not, there are precautions you can take to keep your mind organised. A planner is one. Make a bullet journal, doodle in it, personalise it. Just make sure to also keep it updated with everything that goes on in your brain - that way, believe it or not, you can also relieve stress.

4. Invest in new tools

Don't you just love walking into stationaries and buying coloured pens and cute pencils? We sure do. Apart from being fun to buy, though, they can also come in handy, so make sure you have some on hand.

5. Stay hydrated

We're sure you've heard this one before; stay hydrated.

If water is not your best friend, try adding lemon to it to spice the flavour up, or buy a fancy bottle to keep you smiling throughout the day.

6. Keep safe

With CoronaVirus still around, it is best to keep yourself safe and well-equipped at all times. Try and have a spare face mask or two at hand, just in case you forget yours at home during the morning rush. A packet of sanitising wipes is also ideal, especially when changing lecture rooms or using canteen tables. Do not forget to keep your hand sanitiser handy as well, it will practically become your new best friend.

8. Spare some change

Whether it's for the vending machine or to pay for your much-needed coffee, you can be certain that you will need some spares around.

9. Freshen up

Sometimes you don't have time to make yourself look presentable in the morning, other times you just need to freshen up – either way, carrying a small make-up bag with you, with all the essentials is the way to go. Some gum or mints are also ideal if you're big on coffee.

Make sure to keep a lip balm handy as well, to avoid chapped lips.

10. Get a versatile bag

And of course, what's the use of having all these items, if you have nowhere to put them? Buy a bag that's big enough to fit your laptop but versatile enough to suit all of your outfits.
